A lone bird sat on the telephone wire in our local, sleepy Southern town. It was 87 degrees and it was time for his lunch. He was perched high above my head and I was perched at an intersection nearby waiting on my turn to exit the parking lot. It was lunchtime and the traffic was busy, so I had long moments of glancing and watching. Suddenly, without warning, this sparrow swooped straight down, bomb-diving to the ground, when he abruptly spread out his wings and came to a dead stop on the ground and instantaneously pecked and popped an insect into his mouth! Lunch! A lone crow sat beside a busy road watching and waiting as the traffic passed by. For what was he waiting? The multitude of the flock to join him? A late afternoon snack? Then, I spotted a lone buzzard sitting, waiting on some unseen prey to take his last breath. Soon after, many of his "friends" joined him in anticipating their next meal.
A lone female sat in the local theatre to see Meg Ryan's latest movie, waiting on no one but the movie trailers to end and the feature presentation to begin. Where was the crowd? No matter, I had my popcorn, my drink as my "special deal" of the night, and I was waiting too. The movie came and went and I left alone. All day I had sensed and remembered the words someone had uttered a long time ago, you are born alone and you die alone, ultimately you are by yourself. That is true in certain seasons of your life, but it is NOT true at your birth, nor usually at your death. God sends others to renew and strengthen us; we were NOT designed to function well alone.
Soak up and say out loud the following comforting words:
Isaiah 40:31, But they that WAIT upon the Lord shall renew their strength, they shall mount up with wings as eagles, they shall run and not be weary and they shall walk and not faint. And He means it, I can soar alone if need be!
